Point and figure (P&F) charts are precise in providing buy and sell signals from patterns, and they allow trendlines to be drawn in a straightforward fashion. Bar charts, on the other hand, provide momentum information that can be useful for timing purposes.

By combining the attributes of P&F charts with those of bar charts, Pfscan makes use of changes in price and changes in time. The goal of Pfscan’s software developer is to provide a set of screening filters that uses information from both P&F charts and standard bar charts.
