STOCKS & COMMODITIES Editor Jayanthi Gopalakrishnan spoke with Dr. D on May 8, 2017 about how he came up with the techniques he uses to identify which stocks he trades, and how he created VectorVest software from his ideas.
Bart, you have a mathematical background. How did you get interested in the financial markets?
I got a PhD in chemical engineering in 1960, and it required extensive knowledge of advanced mathematics. Upon graduation, I worked in a research lab in Brecksville, OH. Many people I was working with were involved in the stock market. They had a stock club and I got interested in it because they were thinking ahead about retirement.
