Beating The Market by George Coyle

Is it possible? Here’s a simple trend-following approach that can beat the market over time and should be considered as part of any investor’s plan.

These days, a lot of people are wondering when the stock market will sell off after years of relentless ascent. From a fundamental perspective, there are various compelling arguments that the stock market is on borrowed time and the multiyear bull run is a function of government action and other manipulation, which will ultimately end badly. Yet despite these claims, investing according to the various doomsday scenarios has not been profitable, while staying long has been and (as I write this in July 2014) continues to be very profitable. Still, the questions on the minds of many investors are, “How long can this continue?” and/or “How can I avoid the next crisis?”
