Product: Market data and analytics
platform available as a web version
and Windows client version.
Professional energy, metals, and
agricultural commodity traders
require vast amounts of technical
and fundamental data to make accurate
market forecasts and to execute their
desired trades with lightning speed,
without having to rely on a hodgepodge
of different technical charting platforms,
seasonal data providers, weather forecasting
services, and real-time commodity
news sources. For this special breed of
institutional commodity traders, hedgers, and speculators, all of the technical,
seasonal, weather, fundamental, and
newsfeeds that they require in order to
get their jobs done with effectiveness and
precision is now available in a single,
web-based portal called FutureSource
(FS). Here’s a review of the key features
and benefits of this innovative commodity
trading platform.
Web, cloud, speed, convenience
FutureSource’s web version is identical
to the downloadable Windows client
version, with all your charts, data,
workspaces, and so on saved to the
cloud, thus allowing instant access on
mobile or desktop environments. I ran
FutureSource on two different notebook
computers — one a Windows 7 64-bit
machine and the other a newer Windows
8, core i7 64-bit machine, using
a standard DSL Internet connection via
the Firefox and Internet Explorer 10
browsers. The data instantly updated
the quote lists, and all of the charts
updated in a moment’s notice. After
using the software for several hours, it
struck me that this web-based analysis
platform looks, performs, and feels just
like any other top-shelf desktop trading/
analysis workstation and that the benefits
of having it all stored on the cloud are
manifold: no more Internet updates
and reboots, no catastrophes if a PC,
notebook, or company workstation goes
down, superior mobility, and so on. What
FutureSource has done here is clearly
the next phase of transitioning trading/
analysis software platforms from a fixed
workstation environment to one that is
infinitely mobile and accessible, leaving
a ton of hassles in the dust. Expect
all of the other major players in trading
software to follow suit, if they haven't
done so already.
