Portfolio Maestro is software with its own installation that allows users to analyze portfolios of equities, futures, and forex. The major elements of Portfolio Maestro are a set of symbols that you backtest using trading strategies and can be further analyzed using walkforward analysis. Portfolio Maestro is highly integrated with TradeStation. Your symbol list and trading strategies are referenced directly from TradeStation. There are also selections for money management (dynamic position sizing), ranking, and portfolio stops.
The elements of Portfolio Maestro are organized into strategy groups, with each group having its own set of symbols and trading strategies. Groups are combined into a portfolio, and you can have more than one in a portfolio. After you have created a portfolio, you can backtest it, optimize it, or perform a walk-forward analysis on it, using TradeStation’s Walk Forward Optimizer. When optimizing, you can choose to use exhaustive or genetic algorithms. Of course, backtests and optimizations are subject to whatever money management, ranking, and portfolio stop rules you have chosen.
