METASTOCK The more I talk to MetaStock users, the more users I find who are not taking advantage of layouts. The only reason I can think of why people are not doing so is that they don't realize how much easier it will make their trading — or maybe they don't understand what a layout does.
When you save a layout in MetaStock, the layout remembers what charts were loaded and virtually every characteristic of each chart (for example, number of records loaded, date compression, indicators, moving averages, trendlines, text, and so on). Thus, layouts can help you analyze a large number of securities very quickly. For example, many users like to look at one security with multiple indicators at the same time. This is simple to set up in a layout (see Figure 1) and can then be called up instantly whenever desired.
Now that we understand what layouts do, I'll show you how to create a few simple ones. To save having to repeatedly use hot keys, the layout menu is always accessed by pressing [Ctrl] [L]. To clone a chart (that is, create a duplicate chart of the active chart), simply press [Alt] [C] to access the chart selection menu and [N] for new chart.
