CycleTrader, version 2.0 (Bressert Group) by Barbara Star, Ph.D. Most traders dream of catching price tops and bottoms on a consistent basis, and CycleTrader helps traders do just that. The brainchild of Walter Bressert, well known for his work in the field of cycle analysis, CycleTrader integrates the concepts he developed and advocates in his book, The Power of Oscillator/Cycle Combinations. CycleTrader combines spectral analysis with oscillators, timing/trading bands and trade entry signals to locate potential buy and sell turning points. The program works in any time frame and can be used with stocks, commodities, indi-ces and mutual funds. Rather than create a standalone program, Bressert joined the growing ranks of software developers who devise value-added programs that run only within certain financial charting packages. In this case, Omega Research’s TradeStation and SuperCharts provide the engines that power CycleTrader. This approach holds some pluses, such as reducing the learning curve for current Omega software users and enabling the product developer to maintain control over proprietary formulas by storing them in locked files. The downside, of course, is that the program remains unavailable to non–Omega software owners. |
